It is no longer necessary for passengers to pay the Dh2 basic fare more than once when using various buses to go to their destination, whether it is inside or outside of the city.

The transport authority of Abu Dhabi declared on Tuesday that all of its public buses now had uniform fares. According to the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), the basic bus charge for both urban and suburban areas will now be Dh2, plus 5 fils each kilometer, with a Dh5 ceiling on the cost per route.

According to the center, this implies that a passenger does not have to pay the Dh2 base fare more than once when he takes various buses to go to his final destination, whether it is from the city to the suburbs or back.

As per the ITC, the cost of the journey is determined by taking the passenger’s boarding destination and dropping them off at their last destination. It is paid by using the ‘Hafalat’ smart card at the end of the ride.

But there are three requirements attached to the “free change of buses”:

  • The passenger must change the bus within a reasonable period of time
  • The number of changes must not exceed two times, which means the trip must be completed using a maximum of three buses.
  • There should be no change to the opposite direction of the itinerary.

Passengers must swipe their cards when boarding the bus and before hopping off to calculate the cost of the trip. Those who fail to swipe their cards at the end of the trip shall be charged the maximum fee.
