The Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station, which connects the Al Fahidi and Bur Dubai Stations and serves the Old Baladiya Road Area and Gold Souq, was officially opened by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The project is a component of RTA’s master plan to modernize marine transport services and infrastructure in order to accommodate Dubai’s growth in a number of areas, including tourism, to which RTA places a high priority because it helps to increase Dubai City’s appeal to visitors.
“The station underwent improvement works likewise the improvements that took place at Bur Dubai model station during the initial phase,” stated Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, RTA. Preserving the cultural identity, offering facilities to users, growing covered waiting places, and setting up shops to cater to abra riders were the main priorities.
As part of the expansion plan put in place for this station to meet Dubai Code standards, a 15% increase in capacity is what led to a 27% rise in income as a result of these improvements.
The station has also earned a silver category Green Building Certification. Bahrozyan continued, “Upgrading the marina and lighting with sustainable materials was part of the project scope.
