Guru Ravidas Jayanti is a major festival celebrated by the followers of Ravidassia religion. It is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Magh (February–March). The festival marks the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, a 14th-century Indian mystic poet-saint.
Guru Ravidas was born in Seer Govardhanpur village, Uttar Pradesh, India, in an underprivileged family. He was a progressive thinker who spread the message of equality through his poems and teachings based on spirituality. His written verses are included in Sikh scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib. Meera Bai, an eminent personality in the sphere of Hindu spiritualism recognised Guru Ravidas as her spiritual guide.
On Guru Ravidas Jayanti, devotees take a holy dip in the river to perform rites. They also visit temples dedicated to Guru Ravidas and offer prayers. In some places, processions are taken out with the idol of Guru Ravidas. People also sing bhajans and kirtans in praise of Guru Ravidas.
