There are rumors that Reliance Jio and Airtel may soon stop offering their consumers unlimited 5G data contracts. According to researchers reported in the Economic Times, firms may begin charging 5 to 10 percent more for 5G plans than 4G prices by mid-2024.

Jio and Airtel are likely to increase mobile tariff rates by around 20 percent by September to recoup the cost of 5G infrastructure development and customer acquisition.

Two other telecom operators, Vodafone Idea and BSNL, are yet to announce 5G services.

Meanwhile, Ericsson’s pre-commercial Reduced Capability (RedCap) software has been successfully tested on Airtel’s 5G network in collaboration with Ericsson. It also had the backing of chip maker Qualcomm.

Ericsson RedCap is a new radio access network software that can open up new usage possibilities for 5G. With the help of this software, 5G can be delivered to smart watches, other wearable devices, industrial sensors and AR/VR devices.
