The Dubai Land Department has given new names to 28 areas in the Emirate of Dubai. The most prominent Sheikh Zayed Road area of the city will now be known as ‘Burj Khalifa’.
This is an area with many buildings. The area where houses will be built for the natives will be named ‘Madinat Latweefa’. The area is named after Sheikha Latweefa bint Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, mother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
But although the name change has been announced, it is not clear when it will be implemented. Dubai recently announced a new system for naming roads. In the first phase of the initiative, roads in the Al Khawaneej 2 area were named after local trees and flowers. Al Gaff Street is named after the most famous tree found locally. Similarly other streets were named Al Sidr, Basil, Al Faghi, Al Samar and Al Sharish.
