NEW DELHI– Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has said that Aadhaar will no longer be used as a document to prove date of birth. EPFO said the decision to remove Aadhaar from documents for proof of date of birth follows a directive from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which provides the Aadhaar number.
With this, Aadhaar has been removed from the list of documents for correction of date of birth. Last December 22, the UIDAI circular said that the Aadhaar number can be used to establish the identity of the person. But it was also clarified that this is not a proof of date of birth.
UIDAI also pointed out that many institutions like EPFO are using Aadhaar to receive date of birth.

UIDAI also stated that many High Courts have highlighted in their orders that Aadhaar is not a valid proof of date of birth.
Various documents like birth certificate issued by Registrar of Births and Deaths, mark sheet issued by any recognized government board or university, PAN (Permanent Account Number) card can be used as proof of date of birth.
