2024 is the era of big canvases and big budget films for Indian cinema. Tamil is no different.
The month of April is special as many of the ‘big’ releases eagerly awaited by Tamil moviegoers come together.
Indian 2
It is reported that ‘Indian 2’, which stars Kamal Haasan and Shankar together, will hit the theaters on April 11. This big budget film is produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies. The film is the sequel to the 1996 box office record-breaker ‘Indian’. According to reports, the OTT rights of the film have been sold for Rs 200 crore.
Vidamuyarchi
After the hit film ‘Tuniv’, it is reported that Ajith’s ‘Vitamuirchi’ will also release in April. Head fans have high hopes for the film directed by Magir Thirumeni. It is reported that the OTT rights of the film, which is in progress, has been sold for Rs 100 crore. The Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam versions of Vidhamuirchi will be available on digital platforms after the release. It is reported that they are planning to release on April 24th and if that doesn’t happen then the film will hit on May 1st.
Tangalaan
‘Thangalan’ is a periodical drama film starring Pa Ranjith-Chyan Vikram. The crew had informed that the release of the film will be in April. The release date is likely to be April 11. Netflix has acquired the OTT rights of Tangalan for Rs 75 crore.
Tangalan is produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions banners. The producer had earlier clarified that this period drama is being prepared on a huge budget. The setting is the Kolar gold fields of Karnataka during the British era in the 19th century.
Malavika Mohanan and Parvathy Thiruvoth are the heroines. Parvathy earlier said that Tangalan is the best role of her career. Pasupathi also plays an important role. The screenplay is also by Pa Ranjith. Tamil Prabha is the co-writer. Music by GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by A Kishore Kumar. The action scenes are directed by Anup Anwar.
Nilavuk En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK)
Dhanush starrer and director ‘D50’ will release on April 11. Nithya Menon, SJ Surya, Sundeep Krishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Aparna Balamurali, Dushra Vijayan, Anikha Surendran and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar are part of D50. Cinematography is done by Om Prakash. Music by AR Rahman. Produced by Sun Pictures. No information about the plot of the film has been released.
