What is Jaywan card

Agreement on inter-linking domestic debit/credit cards – RuPay (India) with JAYWAN (UAE): An important step in building financial sector cooperation, this will enhance the universal acceptance of RuPay across the UAE.

Who launched Jaywan card

A new domestic payment card has been launched in the UAE. Called Jaywan and built on India’s digital RuPay credit and debit card stack, it was introduced by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 13.02.2024.

Jaywan, UAE’s own digital and card payment system launched.  UAE’s digital payment system is modeled on India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI).  Jaiwan is India’s RuPay card.  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the first Jaywan card to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

UAE president also made the first digital payment using a card issued in his own name.  The Reserve Bank of India and the UAE Central Bank had signed an agreement last year regarding digital currency transactions.  The National Payments Corporation of India has awarded the contract to the UAE Central Bank to manufacture Jaywan cards.  Payments can now be made in India using Jaywan card and in UAE using RuPay card.
