Aadhaar card is one of the most important identification documents in the country. Aadhaar card scheme was launched in India in 2010.
Aadhaar is used as an identification document for various types of private and government affairs. In such a scenario, it is important that all the Aadhaar card details are correct and up-to-date. Now there is an opportunity to change any information in Aadhaar card for free.
Generally, certain fee is required to change or update information in Aadhaar card. However, no fee is payable till March 14. Earlier, 14th December 2023 was announced as the last date for free update of Aadhaar card. But later it was extended till March 14, 2024.
Note that this free facility is only available for online updates. The facility is available free of charge through the myAadhaar portal. If you go to Aadhaar centers to update your records, you will have to pay a fixed fee. UIDAI has advised those who have not updated it in the last 10 years to update Aadhaar. This is done to prevent fraud related to Aadhaar.
What can be changed?
Information that can be updated online includes name, address, date of birth, gender, phone number and email id. Photo, fingerprint or other biometric information can also be updated. For this you will have to go to Aadhaar center.
How to update?
Visit Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) official website uidai(dot)gov(dot)in to update name, address, date of birth etc. in Aadhaar for free. Information can also be updated free of charge through the myAadhaar app.
To update Aadhaar through the portal
Visit the website https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
Click on ‘Login’.
- Enter Aadhaar Number and Captcha Code. Click on ‘Send OTP’ option. Then the OTP will be sent to the Aadhaar registered mobile phone number. Enter it.
- Login and select ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ option.
- Read the instructions carefully and click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.
- Select what you want to update. Upload the required documents here. Then click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’ option.
- Confirm that the given details are correct and submit.
