Malaikottai Valiban is the most awaited film of Malayalam cinema in 2024. The audience was waiting to see Malayalam’s own Mohanlal as Malaikottai Valiban. It is these expectations that attract the audience to the theatre. Malaikottai Valiban is a film that can be seen as a folk tale with no spatial clues. Mohanlal himself is taking the film forward. But the reins of the story are still in the hands of Lijo Jose Pellissery as if unleashing a sacrificial flame.
The film tells the story of Malaikottai Valiban, a mallan who goes around the country defeating the mallans. The core of the film is his journey through different countries and the experiences and conflicts that arise during it. As mentioned earlier, the film, which shares the warm earth and the colors of the celebration without spatial cues, pays more attention to the story, Valiban and those around him.

Mohanlal is coming as Malaikottai Valiban with the caption that Malayalam’s own Mohanlal is coming. In the film, Mohanlal does all the characteristics of a male character, body and action very well. Mohanlal is also marking his role in acting as the film is treated in a very dramatic manner. Apart from that, ‘Malaikottai Valiban’ does not give actor Mohanlal any story challenges.
Apart from the familiar faces, there are many newcomers who are doing justice to their roles in ‘Malaikottai Valiban’. Apart from that, the film is technically excellent. After ‘Churuli’, Madhu Neelakandan once again swings the camera for Lijo, and the beauty of Rajasthan’s warm land really shines through. The long shots give the film a magnificent look at many places. Prashant Pillai’s music is minimally used in the film, but the impact it creates at many points is great.
“No plans to change, no plans to impress anyone,” Lijo Jose Pellissery wrote on Facebook when his earlier film Double Barrel failed at the theatres. On the whole, Malaikottai Valiban is a film where the viewer may feel, positively or negatively, that Lijo Jose Pellissery sticks to that phrase. But there is no doubt that the film offers a great viewing experience.
